Sunrise is a long east-west city, and the housing gets newer as you move west. The eastern neighborhoods around Sunrise Boulevard are 1960s and 1970s single-family on compact lots, with plenty of mature landscaping and shaded side yards where carts sit damp. Welleby and Springtree in the middle of the city are classic 1980s Broward suburbia. Out west toward Sawgrass, you get newer development and large managed communities.

Sunrise also carries a very large retirement population — the Sunrise Lakes communities in particular — where shared cart banks serve many units and no single resident has responsibility for maintaining them. Those are consistently the dirtiest bins in the city and the ones most likely to generate complaints about smell and insects. They are also the easiest to fix on a schedule, because the whole bank gets serviced in one visit.

The far western edge sits against conservation land and the water management canals, which brings both wildlife interest in food-smelling carts and a genuine obligation not to wash contaminated water into the drainage system. Our tanks capture everything and it leaves with us.
