Boca Raton has maintained unusually consistent architectural and landscaping controls for a city its size, and the expectation of a certain standard runs deep — from the older neighborhoods east of Federal Highway through to the large gated communities west of Military Trail like Boca West, Broken Sound and the Polo Club communities. A neglected trash cart is conspicuously out of place here, which is why so much of our work in the city is recurring rather than one-off.

The eastern neighborhoods bring the coastal version of the problem: salt air, high humidity, older housing on compact lots, and carts stored in narrow side yards that hold moisture. Corrosion on lids and hinges is faster within a mile or two of the ocean, and a bin that stays damp never gets the dry interval that would slow bacterial growth.

West of the interstate, the communities are newer and predominantly HOA-governed, with covenants requiring carts to be stored out of view. Garage storage keeps the streetscape right and concentrates odor indoors. It also means the smell is noticed by the household rather than the neighbors — which, in our experience, is what actually prompts the call.
