Trash Collection Days in Broward County: How to Find Yours

Broward has no single pickup schedule — each city sets its own. Where to look up your garbage and recycling day, and why that day matters for your bin.

Rules & schedules4 min readUpdated

In Broward County there is no one collection calendar. Each city runs its own garbage and recycling service with its own contracted hauler and its own route days, and unincorporated neighborhoods are served separately by the county. The fastest way to find your day is your city's own website, searched by your street address.

That is the short answer. The rest of this page is how to find it quickly, what to do if the city lookup does not work, and why your collection day is also the date that decides when a bin is easiest to clean.

Why doesn't Broward County have one trash schedule?

Because garbage collection in Broward is a city service, not a county one. Each municipality contracts its own hauler, draws its own routes and sets its own days, so two houses a mile apart in neighboring cities can have completely different schedules.

The county itself only runs collection for the unincorporated areas it governs directly, known as the Broward Municipal Services District. Broward County's Waste and Recycling Services is the place to look for those neighborhoods. If you live inside a city, the county's schedule is not yours.

How do I find my garbage and recycling day?

Start with your city, not a search engine. The official source is the only one that updates when routes change.

  1. 01Confirm which city you are actually in. A mailing address can say one city while the property sits in another, or in an unincorporated pocket. Your property tax bill or the Broward County Property Appraiser record shows the true jurisdiction.
  2. 02Go to that city's official website and look under Public Works, Sanitation, or Solid Waste. Most Broward cities have an address lookup or a zone map.
  3. 03Enter your street address and note all of it: garbage days, recycling day, yard waste day and bulk pickup schedule. They are often different days.
  4. 04If there is no lookup, call the city's customer service line. For unincorporated areas, Broward County's 311 service handles it.

Third-party schedule websites exist, but they copy city data and can lag behind a route change. Use them to find the right city page, not as the answer.

What does it look like in practice?

Fort Lauderdale is a good example of how detailed a city's rules are. According to the City of Fort Lauderdale's collection programs page, garbage is collected twice a week, recycling and yard waste once a week, and bulk trash once a month. WM has been the city's collection provider since July 31, 2023, and the city offers an interactive map for looking up your schedule.

The same page sets the cart rules: carts go to the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day and no earlier than 6:00 PM the night before, at least two feet from other carts, cars, mailboxes, trees, storm drains and utility poles, and come back in the same day.

Other Broward cities have their own versions of each of these rules. Some change their route days when they change haulers, so a schedule you learned a few years ago may no longer be right.

Why does my collection day matter for bin cleaning?

Because collection day, once the truck has been, is when your bin is empty. A cart can only be properly cleaned when there is nothing in it, and it never holds less than it does right after pickup.

That is why we schedule every visit for your collection day, after the garbage truck has emptied the cart. You leave the cart at the curb as it is, we wash the inside with our own hot water, and it goes back ready for the next week. We bring our own water and tidy the area before we leave. You do not need to be home. There is more on how the visit works on the bin cleaning page, including the Broward cities we cover, such as Fort Lauderdale.

What if my garbage and recycling days are different?

Then the two carts are empty on different days, and one visit can only catch both if it follows the later of the two.

In practice we time the visit so that both carts are as empty as they get. If your recycling goes out on a different day from your garbage, tell us both days when you book so the visit can be timed around them.

What about holidays and storms?

Holidays and hurricanes can both shift routes. A holiday week can move collection by a day, and after a named storm, debris pickup can take over the normal schedule for a while. The city's website and social accounts are where those changes are announced, and they override the normal calendar.

What does bin cleaning cost in Broward?

The same everywhere we work. Every plan covers two bins — usually the garbage cart and the recycling cart. Monthly is $30 a visit, every 3 months is $50, and a single one-time cleaning is $65. Each additional bin is $10, and the monthly plan's year is $30 a month, or $324 paid up front — 10% off the $360. The full list is on the pricing page.

The short version

Broward County has no single trash schedule: your city sets your collection days, and the county handles only unincorporated areas. Look up your address on your city's official website and note garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk days separately. Garbage collection day, after the truck has been, is when your cart is empty — which is when it can be cleaned properly.

Tell us your collection day and book online — we come that same day, once the truck has emptied the cart.
